Grudziądz has received confirmation that it will be awarded nearly PLN 80 million in funding for a climate change adaptation project under the Polish-Swiss Urban Development Programme. As Maciej Glamowski, Mayor of Grudziądz, emphasises, this is a major success, as out of 117 cities that submitted applications, only a dozen or so local governments will receive funding.

The project focuses on measures aimed at improving residents’ quality of life, increasing the city’s resilience to the effects of climate change and strengthening the role of environmental education. A number of important investments and initiatives are planned as part of the project. A Nature Education Centre will be established on Lipowa Street. Two parks – one on Lipowa Street and the other on Kochanowskiego Street – will be revitalised. The project also includes the construction of a cycle path connecting the city centre with Lake Tarpieńskie, as well as a new footbridge over the Trynka Canal.
The project also includes the revitalisation of the area along the Trynka Canal – from the Botanical Garden to PCK Street – as well as the removal of paved surfaces from selected urban spaces as part of the so-called blue-green acupuncture initiative.
Environmental and ecological education activities are also planned for residents of all ages, along with grants for schools in Grudziądz, enabling them to obtain funding for their own environmental initiatives.
“This is a great source of pride and another step towards creating a modern, green city that is resilient to climate change. Congratulations are due to the entire team, which has worked intensively over the past several months to prepare the project and secure this funding,” said Mayor Maciej Glamowski.
The city is currently preparing to sign the funding agreement. At the same time, it is planning an event to launch the project with the participation of local residents.
